The global telecom operators regard the TD-LTE standard as the next generation of mobile communication (4G) network technology. Huawei expects that there will be more Asia TD-LTE trials within the next few years, but the commercial TD-LTE will need more time than North America and Europe.
Operators will use both TD-LTE and LTE FDD technology in its network to handle the traffic demand. "This will be the future trend." Said Lu Xingang, vice president of CDMA & WiMAX & TD product line, Huawei.
Now Huawei has got the LTE FTT and TD-LTE commercial network contracts from Polish mobile broadband operators Aero2. The operator's network will use both TD-LTE technology and LTE FDD technology, Lu Xingang said. In addition, Huawei also has won another two contracts to deploy the TD-LTE commercial network.
Zhang Zhihua, director of Ovum Asia Pacific, said the reason why Asia was interested in TD-LTE technology was the cost of deploying TD-LTE technology WAS less than the cost of deploying LTE FDD. (BY NYE SHA)
