On October 27, the National Bureau of Statistics released a report showing that in January-September 2026, industrial enterprises above designated size nationwide posted a combined profit of 6,033.74 billion yuan, up 15.5 percent year on year.
Yu Weining, chief statistician of the NBS Industrial Department, attributed the strong profit growth in large part to the electronics industry. As industrial upgrading and technological iteration continue to advance, the electronics industry has sustained its growth momentum and steadily improved its operational quality and efficiency. In January-September, profits in the electronics industry rose 1.0 times year on year, boosting the profits of all industrial enterprises above designated size by 9.6 percentage points and providing key support for their relatively rapid growth.
By sub-sector, demand for AI computing power and advanced storage drove profits in the electronic special materials manufacturing and semiconductor discrete device manufacturing industries up 2.2 times and 51.7 percent, respectively. The accelerated development of next-generation information technology lifted profits in the optoelectronic device manufacturing industry by 69.8 percent, while the electronic circuit manufacturing industry saw profit growth of 62.5 percent.
High-tech manufacturing is playing an increasingly prominent leading role. In January-September, profits in high-tech manufacturing above designated size rose 52.0 percent year on year, 36.5 percentage points higher than the average for all industrial enterprises above designated size. High-tech manufacturing accounted for 25.5 percent of the total profits of industrial enterprises above designated size, up 6.2 percentage points from the same period last year.
By industry, the buildout of computing power and data centers drove profits in the optical fiber manufacturing industry up 5.7 times and in the optical cable manufacturing industry up 1.1 times.
In addition, within the computer and server supply chains, profits in the computer peripheral equipment manufacturing, computer complete machine manufacturing, and industrial control computer and system manufacturing industries increased 2.8 times, 1.7 times, and 90.9 percent, respectively.
