2 Years after Meng Wanzhou¡¯s Detention, Huawei Continues to Support her in Seeking Justice and Freed

Updated:2020/12/2 21:36

Meng Wanzhou, vice chairman and CFO of Huawei, has been under house arrest in Canada for two years. On the second anniversary of her detention, Huawei Canada said in a statement posted on Twitter that it continues to stand with Meng in her pursuit of justice and freedom.

On December 1, 2018, Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested at Vancouver International Airport under an extradition order issued by the US government, according to the statement. It has been two years since her arrest. Huawei has confidence in Ms. Meng’s innocence and trusts in the Canadian judicial system to reach that conclusion.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference on December 1 that facts fully show that what happened to Meng Wanzhou is a serious political incident – the Canadian government acted as an accomplice of the US with an unshirkable responsibility.

She pointed out that Meng Wanzhou has not violated any Canadian laws, but has been detained to this day. We feel indignant about this and strongly condemn this again. The Chinese government is determined in safeguarding our citizens’ legitimate rights and interests. We will continue taking all necessary measures towards this end. We once again urge Canada to correct its wrongdoing at once and release Meng Wanzhou so she could return to her motherland safe and sound.
