Yesterday, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the Report on the Economic Progress of China’s Telecommunication Sector from January to May 2020. Statistics revealed that the combined revenue reached CNY 574.1 billion, showing year-on-year increase of 2.8%, a rise in growth rate by 2.5 percentage points compared to the previous year, and a 0.5 percentage-point rise in growth magnitude relative to that from January through April.
By the end of May, 2020, the total number of mobile phone users subscribed to the three major telecommunication companies reached 1.592 billion, showing an increase of 0.2% compared to the previous year. Among all the mobile phone subscribers, 80.3% are 4G users. This proportion grows by 0.3% compared to that recorded until end of April. Fixed internet broadband access subscribers totaled to 462 million, having increased by 7% compared to the previous year, which is equivalent to a net increase of 1.253 million users compared to the end of 2019. Furthermore, the number of cellular IoT device users amounted to 1.097 billion, showing a year-on-year growth rate of 44% and a net increase of 68.86 million compared to the previous year.
