China Mobile Hong Kong officially completed its 2G network retirement on June 23, following approval from the Communications Authority of Hong Kong.
This move comes after CMHK had already completed its 3G network shutdown in June 2025, making it the first operator in the city to do so.
The Communications Authority of Hong Kong stated that Hutchison Telephone Company Limited , SmarTone Mobile Communications Limited, and Hong Kong Telecommunications Limited had already ceased providing 2G services. As the last local operator still offering 2G, CMHK's termination of the service marks the official end of the 2G era in Hong Kong.
Hutchison Telephone, SmarTone, and HKT had discontinued their 2G services on September 30, 2021, October 14, 2022, and November 8, 2024, respectively.
