Richard Yu: the New Generation of Kirin Processor Will Be the Last to Power a Huawei Flagship

Updated:2020/8/9 21:40

Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, mentioned that Huawei Mate 40 will be the last smartphone to feature its own high-end Kirin processor due to the ban of the Trump administration.

“Our new generation of Kirin processor will be more powerful in 5G technology, AI processing, CPU and GPU. But unfortunately, because of the second round of US sanctions, our world’s leading terminal chips will no longer be manufactured after September 15. The new generation of Kirin chips will be the last to power Huawei Flagship. Huawei spent over a decade exploring chipsets, going from ‘severely behind’ to ‘very behind’ to ‘slightly behind’ to ‘finally caught up’ to ‘leading’ to now being banned. This is a huge loss.” said Yu.

To solve the problem, efforts must be made to achieve innovation and breakthrough in foundational technology to gain an advantage over the next era. Richard Yu, on behalf of Huawei, calls for an improvement in the foundation of technology to build a new ecosystem of technology.
