Portugal's Optimus has contracted Huawei to supply equipment for its LTE network, the Chinese vendor announced on Wednesday.
The mobile operator is using Huawei's SingleRAN equipment, which supports GSM, UMTS and LTE.
"Our successful partnership with Optimus on wireless, from GSM, UMTS and now LTE, demonstrates the effectiveness of Huawei's SingleRAN LTE solution in helping operators cope with the challenges of operating multiple networks and meeting the demands of mobile broadband simultaneously," said Ying Weimin, president of Huawei's GSM, UMTS and LTE network unit.
"Optimus is excited to announce that Huawei has been selected as a strategic partner for the important launch of our commercial LTE services in Portugal," added José Pinto Correia, CTO of Optimus.
"We believe that Huawei's innovative solution and rich commercial experience will enable our customers to enjoy an incomparable mobile broadband experience," he said.
Optimus launched commercial LTE services in March this year. Tariffs for smartphone customers start at €52.40 per month and for an additional €7.50 per month customers can share data allowances between two devices. Prices for dongle or tablet users start at €49.90, currently discounted to €24.90.
