In May 2025, China Mobile and Huawei jointly rolled out the world's first 5G New Calling Data Channel (DC) service in Henan, China. This groundbreaking innovation frees itself from standard call limitations with touchscreen-based interactive calling, promoting the development and prosperity of the industry. In June 2025, China Mobile will expand this revolutionary service to adaptive terminals across China, marking a major leap in the communications sector.
Unlike conventional calling services, which are limited to taps and voice, the DC service introduces an interactive service center. It taps into existing audio and video channels to achieve real-time cloud-to-user, and user-to-user data interactions. With just a few easy taps, users can access a variety of functions, such as screen sharing, real-time translation, and fun calling, enabling numerous services from the call interface. For example, a user could tap to share their screen, edit documents, or instantly view translation subtitles during a business call, improving their work efficiency.
DC technology is revolutionizing communication services by expanding their value boundaries like never before. By integrating industry services into DC calls, users can seamlessly handle tasks like hotel bookings, enterprise customer support, insurance claims, and financial transactions — all within calls, eliminating the need for app switching. This innovation supports the communications industry, and creates new business opportunities.
China Mobile, the world's first operator to achieve end-to-end commercialization of IMS DC technology, spearheaded its New Calling strategy in 2023, establishing a robust ecosystem for data channels, multimedia interaction, and mini app integration. Collaborating with top mobile phone manufacturers like vivo, OPPO, Honor, Xiaomi, Samsung, and Huawei, China Mobile has completed terminal adaptation to DC technology, paving the way to transform 5G voice and video services into real-time, interactive experiences.
With the shift from "making calls" to "solving problems through calls", the commercialization of New Calling DC technology marks the dawn of an interactive era in communication services. Looking ahead, China Mobile will collaborate with industry partners such as Huawei to fuel continuous innovation in DC services, enhance call experiences, break service barriers, and empower industries with real-time interactive capabilities — driving new quality productive forces for the communications industry.
