New Huawei Solution Introduces AI to the Telco Cloud for the Very First Time

Updated:2025/3/10 14:18

At the 5G-A Core Network Summit at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Lin Wei, President of the Intelligent Telco Cloud Domain of Huawei Cloud Core Network, delivered a keynote speech and unveiled the Telco Intelligent Converged Cloud (TICC) solution. This solution marks the first introduction of an AI framework to the Telco Cloud and establishes the inaugural AI enablement platform within the core network sector. As such, it helps operators upgrade their telecom infrastructure regarding architecture, automation, sustainability, and AI, enabling them to tackle intricate network challenges, foster AI-powered service innovations, and construct cutting-edge telecom infrastructure for the mobile AI era.

Lin Wei delivering a keynote speech

From telegraphs and telephones to mobile communications, the Internet, and today's advancements in AI, the cloud, and quantum technologies, every significant technological leap throughout human history has profoundly transformed our lives and societal structures. In the era of mobile AI, how can the Telco Cloud, our telecom network infrastructure, adapt to meet new demands? How can it evolve into a cloud-based, AI-powered infrastructure, drive service innovation, and expedite network automation and intelligence?

To these questions, Mr. Lin emphasized that future-facing telecom infrastructure must offer advanced general and intelligent computing capabilities, alongside high-performance storage and networking solutions. Such infrastructure should natively support various resource types including Virtual Machines (VMs), containers, and bare metal servers. Additionally, it must possess the ability for seamless evolution, automation, energy efficiency, and comprehensive AI integration, thereby serving as the intelligent backbone of the mobile AI era.

Powered by cutting-edge, fully converged dual-engine container architecture, Huawei's TICC offers end-to-end automation and energy efficiency features. It acts as an advanced AI-enabling platform that assists operators in seamlessly evolving their networks, ensuring secure network changes, lowering overall energy consumption, and delivering versatile AI computing resources to support various AI applications. This positions operators to grasp the opportunities of the mobile AI era.

Dual-Engine Container Architecture: A Seamless Path to Evolution

The dual-engine container architecture supports both OpenStack and Kubernetes. It lets operators adopt containers through capacity expansion instead of new deployments, allows network and storage resources to be shared, and simplifies Operations and Maintenance (O&M), helping operators transition to container technology. In August 2024, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), one of Indonesia's leading operators, partnered with Huawei to put the dual-engine container architecture into commercial use for the first time, completing the world's largest Packet Switched (PS) network consolidation project and setting a benchmark for container evolution in the industry.

End-to-End (E2E) Automation: Unlocking the Value of Agile Cloudification

E2E automation is essential for ensuring secure network changes and improving network agility, both of which are vital for operators to realize cloud value. Huawei's TICC offers comprehensive orchestration for telecom services, providing unified cross-layer and cross-domain O&M management. Using digital twin and simulation technologies, TICC minimizes the risks associated with high-risk operations. Additionally, its support for Long-Term Support (LTS) versions and multi-Operating System (OS) technologies reduces the need for frequent network changes, boosting overall network efficiency and supporting agile cloudification.

System-Level Energy Efficiency: Driving Low-Carbon Sustainability

Huawei's TICC introduces a holistic energy-saving solution that integrates green hardware, a green cloud platform, a green management system, and eco-friendly Network Elements (NEs). Through advanced algorithms that identify service loads and optimize performance during peak and off-peak periods, TICC achieves precise frequency modulation at the millisecond level. This results in a more than 25% reduction in system-wide power consumption, enhances resource utilization, and fosters sustainable, low-carbon operations.

AI Enablement Platform: Harnessing AI for All Telecom Scenarios

TICC revolutionizes the core network sector by introducing the innovative AI engine FusionMind, which establishes the first AI enablement platform in this field. This platform comprises three key modules: an agent framework, training, and inference. It supports flexible scheduling of diverse computing resources and integrates hardware-software collaboration to enhance computational efficiency, fulfilling the AI processing demands across all telecom service scenarios.

Moving forward, Huawei is committed to collaborating with industry partners to develop the most robust computing infrastructure for the mobile AI era, using TICC. This initiative aims to facilitate rapid service innovation among operators and drive the evolution toward advanced intelligent telecom networks as part of their digital and intelligent transformations.
