Ericsson lands Unitel Angola LTE contract

Updated:2013/1/14 10:24

Communications group Ericsson has been contracted by Angola-based telecommunications services company Unitel to deliver a next-generation network in the Southern African country.

Ericsson said on Friday that, following Unitel’s launch, in December, of a commercial long-term evolution (LTE) service, the parties entered into an agreement wherein Ericsson would undertake the design, implementation and initial tuning of the LTE network.

The agreement included the integration of LTE functionality into existing provisioning and charging systems and an upgrade of the core network to a triple-access evolved packet core that simultaneously carried global system for mobile communications, wideband code division multiple access and LTE traffic.

“The new LTE network will facilitate Unitel’s continued delivery of superior connectivity, services and capabilities to their customers,” said Ericsson head of sub-Saharan Africa Lars Lindén.
