Huawei Posts H1 Revenue of RMB 467.82 Billion as R&D Spending Hits Record High

Updated:2026/8/31 21:28

Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. reported first-half revenue of RMB 467.82 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026, according to its semi-annual filing released on August 31 via the Beijing Financial Assets Exchange and other platforms. The top-line figure represented a year-on-year increase of 9.55 percent. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company, however, fell 36.77 percent to RMB 23.43 billion.

The contrast between steady revenue growth and a sharp earnings decline underscores a sustained ramp-up in research and development outlays. R&D expenses for the period surged 25.2 percent from a year earlier to RMB 121.38 billion, accounting for 25.94 percent of total revenue—both all-time highs for the company. Similar trends were also seen in procurement, supply chain and business operations. At its core, the company said, this reflects its commitment to a "long-termist" strategy even as the macro environment remains challenging and uncertainties continue to mount.

As Huawei made clear in its 2025 annual report, the company will continue to increase R&D investment in strategic frontiers spanning connectivity, computing, cloud, terminals, intelligent driving and artificial intelligence. It aims to embed AI and security capabilities into every product and network, while fostering a collaborative and win-win ecosystem around its Ascend, Kunpeng and HarmonyOS platforms. While the short-term profit swing is certainly eye-catching, it is not the primary metric to watch. The more consequential long-term question, analysts and observers note, is how Huawei will build an irreplaceable competitive edge in the AI era.
