The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) recently released the Domestic Mobile Phone Market Operation Report for April 2026.
In April 2026, total mobile phone shipments in China reached 25.733 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%. Among them, 5G mobile phones accounted for 24.736 million units, rising 24.4% year on year and taking up 96.1% of the total shipments for the month.
From January to April, domestic mobile phone shipments totaled 86.538 million units, down 8.6% year on year. Shipments of 5G mobile phones stood at 80.203 million units, a slight year-on-year drop of 0.9%, accounting for 92.7% of the overall volume.
In terms of new models launched, 59 new mobile phone models were released in April, up 18.0% year on year. The number of new 5G models reached 37, surging 94.7% year on year and making up 62.7% of all new launches.
For the January-April period, a total of 138 new mobile phone models rolled out nationwide, a year-on-year decrease of 15.3%. There were 85 new 5G models, up 3.7% year on year and representing 61.6% of total new releases.
By brand origin, domestic brands shipped 22.144 million mobile phones in April, a year-on-year growth of 2.9%, which accounted for 86.1% of total monthly shipments. A total of 55 new models from domestic brands were launched, rising 22.2% year on year and occupying 93.2% of all new models in the month.
Over the first four months, shipments of domestic-brand mobile phones amounted to 74.360 million units, down 9.6% year on year and holding an 85.9% share of total shipments.
Domestic brands launched 130 new models, a year-on-year decline of 16.7%, accounting for 94.2% of all new mobile phone models released in the period.
