According to the People's Daily, a satellite super factory that is capable of producing 1,000 satellites a year is scheduled to start operations in the Wenchang International Aerospace City. The factory will offer the full service from satellite production to rocket launch. Currently, more than 20 companies engaged in the industrial chain have signed to settle in the aerospace city, including firms engaged in rocket research and development, satellite manufacturing, launch and flight control, and satellite measurement and control, making the industrial chain more complete.
The super factory consists of two facilities — the advanced international satellite manufacturing center and the international satellite and rocket collaborative research and development center. It adopts a "1+1+8" structure — a super factory, a testing center and eight core facilities for research and development of key components and parts. It is the only production base that can assemble satellites, as well as integrate them into the rocket fairings in China, and the largest satellite manufacturing base in Asia.
Satellite manufacturing used to be done in highly customized "workshops", which often took several years to complete the whole process from manufacturing to launch. The satellites were considered "works of art". With the capacity of producing 1,000 satellites annually, satellite manufacturing in China is now becoming industrialized.
