The IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group already initiated the test for developing 5G enhancement technology in 2019 with the focus on the chip-system connectivity test and the test of 5G MMW technology and related products, said by Xu Fei, the leader of the Group’s 5G test team. By the end of October, some companies including HiSilicon, Qualcomm, MediaTek and UNISOC have participated in the chip test. HiSilicon, MediaTek and UNISOC launched the low-mid frequency (LMF) chips supporting NSA and SA. Meanwhile, chip makers are working with Huawei, ZTE, CICT, Nokia Shanghai Bell, Ericsson and Samsung to perform the interoperability test and facilitate the commercialization of 5G networks in China by independent networking.
Xu also stated that based on an overall plan, the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group will propel the 5G MMW test in three stages. According to Xu, “the group will focus on verifying the key technology and system characteristics of 5G MMW in 2019, verifying the functions, performance and interoperability of MMW base stations and terminals in 2020, and verifying its application in typical scenes during 2020-2021.”
