The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology has released its operational analysis report for the domestic mobile phone market in September 2025.
In September 2025, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 27.931 million units, marking a 10.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Shipments of 5G phones stood at 24.106 million units, up 8.0% year-on-year, accounting for 86.3% of all mobile phone shipments during the period.
For the January-September period of 2025, total mobile phone shipments in the domestic market were 220 million units, reflecting a slight decrease of 0.3% year-on-year. Among these, 5G phone shipments reached 187 million units, a marginal increase of 0.1%, making up 85.3% of the total.
Regarding new models, 47 new mobile phone models were launched in the domestic market in September 2025, a significant increase of 30.6% year-on-year. This included 23 new 5G phone models, surging 64.3% year-on-year, which constituted 48.9% of all new models launched that month.
From January to September 2025, a total of 398 new mobile phone models were released in the domestic market, up 20.6% year-on-year. Among these, 180 were 5G models, a slight increase of 1.1%, accounting for 45.2% of all new models.
In terms of brand composition, domestic brand phone shipments in September 2025 totaled 23.644 million units, a robust increase of 16.1% year-on-year, capturing an 84.7% share of the market. Domestic brands also launched 44 new models, a 25.7% increase, representing 91.7% of all new models released that month.
