According to MediaTek’s CEO Rick Tsai’s first disclosure yesterday, the company’s latest 5G flagship chip will be released in the first quarter of next year, which is hopefully to be launched before the Chinese New Year.
Industry insiders predict that the various 5G chips that MediaTek will launch next year should be produced with the 5nm or 6nm manufacture procedure of TSMC. However, due to the fact that the production capacity of TSMC's advanced procedure is quite tight, especially that the 5nm process-related production capacity is almost occupied by Apple Inc., MediaTek's subsequent chip supply is still unknown.
Rick Tsai mentioned that the global penetration rate of 5G mobile phones is expected to reach 18% this year, to 49% in 2022, and to 60% in 2023.
