Huawei Reduces 5G Delay from 20ms to 1ms

Updated:2021/12/16 14:26

Recently, organized by IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Huawei successfully completed the laboratory test of ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC) technology with a delay of only 1ms.

According to test results, with 5G R15 and R16 key URLLC techniques, 5G millimeter-wave devices could achieve the two-way end-to-end delay of 1ms at the reliability level of 99.999%.

URLLC technology is more important than connection speed in some cases, such as remote surgery, moving vehicle, vehicular communication, smart grid or industrial private network. It provides low latency and ultra-high reliability.

Mobile network delayed reached 20ms in the LTE standard of 2004. At LTE R15, the theoretical delay was reduced to 2.7ms. At 5G R15, the 3GPP set the standard of 0.5ms uplink and 0.5ms downlink, i.e. 1ms two-way. From 20ms to 1ms, it takes a good 17 years’ time.
