On November 3, 2019, the Ministry of Science and Technology held a kick-off meeting for the research and development of 6G Technology in Beijing. Other participants included the State Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and National Natural Science Foundation of China.
The meeting announced to set up the Promotion Working Group and the Expert Panel for the research and development of 6G technology. The Promotion Working Group is composed of government departments and tasked with promoting the development of 6G. The Expert Panel has a total of 37 telecommunication specialists drawn from universities, institutions and corporations, who are responsible for laying out the development of 6G, proving its scientific feasibility, and providing advices on major decisions.
In the next stage, the Ministry of Science and Technology will work with other departments and the Expert Panel to formulate a systematic plan for developing 6G technology, conduct technical pre-research of 6G, and explore possible technical directions.
