The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released the operational performance of the telecommunications industry in the first five months of 2025. During this period, telecom business revenue totaled 748.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%. The telecom business volume, calculated at constant prices from the previous year, grew by 8.6% year-on-year.
The construction of gigabit optical fiber broadband networks has progressed steadily. By the end of May, the number of internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.232 billion, a net increase of 29.84 million since the beginning of the year. Among these, FTTH/O ports accounted for 1.19 billion, up by 30.12 million since the start of the year, representing 96.6% of all internet broadband access ports. Additionally, the number of 10G PON ports capable of supporting gigabit network services reached 29.8 million, a net increase of 1.6 million since the end of last year.
5G network construction continues to deepen. By the end of May, the total number of 5G base stations reached 4.486 million, a net increase of 235,000 since the beginning of the year. These now account for 35.3% of all mobile base stations, up 0.4 percentage points from the first four months.
