On October 24, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released the "Analysis Report on the Domestic Smartphone Market Operation in August 2025." The report shows that in August, domestic smartphone shipments totaled 22.603 million units, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 6.0%. Among these, 5G smartphone shipments accounted for 19.992 million units, marking a year-on-year increase of 1.2% and representing 88.4% of total smartphone shipments during the same period. From January to August, domestic smartphone shipments reached 192 million units, down 1.7% year-on-year. Among these, 5G smartphone shipments totaled 163 million units, a decrease of 1.0% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 85.1% of total smartphone shipments during the period.
In August, 65 new smartphone models were launched in the domestic market, a year-on-year increase of 32.7%. Among these, 31 were 5G models, the same as the previous year, accounting for 47.7% of all new models released during the period. Shipments of domestic brand smartphones reached 21.298 million units, down 4.0% year-on-year, accounting for 94.2% of total smartphone shipments during the period. Domestic brands launched 63 new models, a year-on-year increase of 50.0%, representing 96.9% of all new models released during the period.
From January to August, 351 new smartphone models were launched in the domestic market, a year-on-year increase of 19.4%. Among these, 157 were 5G models, down 4.3% year-on-year, accounting for 44.7% of all new models released during the period. Shipments of domestic brand smartphones reached 169 million units, up 0.6% year-on-year, accounting for 88.0% of total smartphone shipments during the period. Domestic brands launched 334 new models, a year-on-year increase of 22.3%, representing 95.2% of all new models released during the period.
