According to Economic Operation of the Communications Industry in Jan.-Aug. 2021 recently released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in Jan.-Aug. this year, the accumulated telecommunications revenue in China reached 991.9 billion yuan, showing a year-on-year (YOY) growth of 8.4%. Calculated at constant prices of last year, the total amount of telecommunication service would be 1.0932 trillion yuan, with a YOY growth of 27.5%.
The report also indicates steady growth of data and Internet business income. In Jan.-Aug., three foundation telecommunication enterprises achieved the fixed data and Internet business income of 170.8 billion yuan, with a YOY growth of 11.3%, accounting for 17.2% of telecommunications revenue. Mobile data and Internet business income reached 439.2 billion yuan, with a YOY growth of 4.3%, accounting for 44.3% of telecommunications revenue.
Voice service continued to decline. In Jan.-Aug., three foundation telecommunication enterprises achieved the fixed and mobile voice service income of 15.6 billion yuan and 79.7 billion yuan, dropped by 6.8% and 5.9% respectively from a year ago. The total of the two accounts for 9.6% of telecommunications revenue.
Income from emerging services showed accelerated growth. In Jan.-Aug., three foundation telecommunication enterprises have actively developed IPTV, Internet data center, big data, cloud computing and other emerging services, totaling the income of 149.1 billion yuan with a YOY growth of 28.1%, accounting for 15% of telecommunications revenue. Among others, the YOY growth of cloud computing and big data even reached 98% and 34.8% respectively.
