Recently, the State Council Information Office hosted a routine press conference to present the economic data for the first quarter of 2025, focusing on developments in industry and information technology.
During the session, Xie Cun, Director of the Information and Communication Development Department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, addressed questions from the media regarding the role of the industrial internet in driving digital transformation across industries. He noted that the government work report has outlined strategic plans for developing the industrial internet for eight consecutive years. In recent years, the Ministry, in collaboration with various departments, local governments, and industry stakeholders, has been actively implementing the Industrial Internet Innovation Development Project. This has led to the creation of an integrated system consisting of five core functions: network, identification, platform, data, and security, positioning China as a global leader in industrial internet development.
Currently, the industrial internet in China covers all 41 major industrial categories. By 2024, the core industry is projected to exceed a scale of 1.5 trillion yuan, contributing approximately 3.5 trillion yuan to economic growth. This progress plays a crucial role in advancing new industrialization and building a modern industrial system.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology plans to focus on three key areas:
Strengthening Policy Guidance: The Ministry aims to accelerate the release of guidelines for high-quality industrial internet development and introduce an upgraded "5G+ Industrial Internet" model. This includes a three-year action plan for seamless identification, high-quality actions for the industrial internet platform, improving foundational systems for industrial data circulation, market-oriented allocation mechanisms, and enhancing security classification management.
Enhancing Infrastructure: Efforts will be made to advance key technological breakthroughs in the industrial internet, upgrade infrastructure, and accelerate innovation and industrialization of technologies such as industrial 5G chips, modules, and smart devices. The orderly construction of independent industrial 5G private networks is underway to build a new industrial network system, develop version 2.0 of the identification and resolution system, and promote the integration of the industrial internet with artificial intelligence.
Expanding Scale of Application: The Ministry will implement the "Chain Network Collaborative" project, releasing integration application guidelines for key industries such as shipbuilding, petrochemicals, automotive, and textiles. It will also select exemplary application cases and outstanding solutions. High-level, high-standard promotion of "5G+ Industrial Internet" integration application pilot cities and 5G factory construction will be pursued. Additionally, the "100 Cities, 1,000 Parks Initiative" will accelerate the entry of the industrial internet into parks, bases, and clusters.
