On October 23, 2018, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which had been built over eight years and had a project investment of more than 100 billion yuan, was officially opened.
This first "super project" integrating bridges, tunnels and artificial islands, in addition to the complexity and difficulty of its own bridge construction, poses a huge problem for the continuous network signal coverage of the entire project. The bridge itself is a special linear coverage scene. Moreover, it is located on the southeast coast of China where extreme weather such as typhoon, thunderstorm and high temperature happen frequently. It is also greatly affected by many wireless signals in Hong Kong and Macao.
In collaboration with Zhuhai Mobile, ZTE spent 43 months in formulating a comprehensive solution of customized wireless network coverage for the world's longest cross-sea bridge.
As for the networking plan of the bridge, in view of its linear coverage circumstance, ZTE and Zhuhai Mobile set up the service room on the Zhuhai-Macau artificial island and the west artificial island on both sides of the bridge, which makes the distance of Radio Remote Unit beyond 10 kilometers.
On the first day of opening, the peak number of 4G network users of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge exceeded 5,000, the wireless connection rate exceeded 99.6% and the VoLTE connection rate exceeded 99.7%. Whether in the bridge steel frame structure or deep into the 6.75-kilometer submarine tunnel, the mobile 4G download speed reaches 50Mbps or higher and the upload speed reaches 18Mbps.
It is reported that the bridge network signal coverage provided by ZTE can not only meet the existing 4G network coverage requirements but also take into account the smooth evolution of the 5G network coverage in the future.
