On September 25, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released the August 2024 Domestic Mobile Phone Market Operation Analysis Report. According to the report, in August, the domestic market saw mobile phone shipments reaching 24.047 million units, a year-on-year increase of 26.7%. Among these, 5G phones accounted for 19.754 million units, a year-on-year increase of 26.3%, representing 82.1% of the total mobile phone shipments during the same period. In the first eight months, domestic mobile phone shipments totaled 195 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%, with 5G phones accounting for 165 million units, a year-on-year increase of 23.9%, and representing 84.5% of the total shipments in the same period.
In August, 47 new mobile phone models were launched in the domestic market, a year-on-year decrease of 14.5%. Among these, 29 were 5G models, a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%, accounting for 61.7% of the new models launched during the same period. In the first eight months, 281 new mobile phone models were introduced, a year-on-year decrease of 4.1%, with 151 of them being 5G models, a year-on-year increase of 13.5%, representing 53.7% of the new models launched during the same period.
In August, shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 22.178 million units, a year-on-year increase of 31.7%, accounting for 92.2% of the total mobile phone shipments during the same period; 40 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 14.9%, representing 85.1% of the new models launched during the same period. In the first eight months, shipments of domestic brand mobile phones totaled 168 million units, a year-on-year increase of 21.3%, accounting for 86.0% of the total shipments during the same period; 260 new models were introduced, a year-on-year decline of 2.3%, representing 92.5% of the new models launched during the same period.
