On the evening of Aug. 26, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) announced that its operating income for the first half of the year was USD 3.745 billion, showing a year-on-year increase of 53%; here, the net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company is USD 962 million, showing a year-on-year increase of 13.6%.
According to the announcement, the increase in income was mainly attributable to the increase in wafer sales in the reporting period, higher average selling prices, and changes in product combinations. The number of wafers sold increased by 12.8% from 3.304 million pieces of 8-inch (equivalent) wafers in the same period last year to 3.727 million pieces during the reporting period. The average selling price (income from wafer sales divided by the total number of wafers sold) increased from USD 678 a year earlier to USD 938 in the reporting period.
