5G evolution is a process of sustainability, Ericsson's Northeast Asia Research Center GM Peng Junjiang said at the "5G Advanced Summit" concurrent with the "2021 MWC Shanghai". The first commercial 5G edition R15 has fundamental functions only, e.g., eMBB. Besides, R16 that has been commercialized is available for V2X and industrial Internet among other solutions, R17 standardization is underway and R18 has been put into discussion on the range of research.
Subject to the decade-long evolution of communication technology, Mr. Peng predicted that 6G be wanted in 2024. Acting on 3GPP's constant global standard, it is expected that 6G will be fully standardized and commercialized on market no earlier than 2028.
