China Unicom has announced that it would reduce international roaming charges from July 10 in U.S., Britain, France, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other 39 countries and regions, with a average decline of 47%. After the adjustment, it would only cost travelers in U.S., Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan 0.96 yuan/min for calling local, and mainland, answering calls in roaming area will be charged as the same price.
In recent years, China Unicom continuously strengthened cooperation with operators from all over the world to reduce international roaming charge. Meanwhile, it contiuously simplifyed the pricing mode by charging unified charges in selected regions. Since 2009, China Unicom has greatly reduced international roaming charges for four times, with decreasing over 50% each time. In 2012, China Unicom further reduced roaming charge in many countries and regions, among which the roaming voice charges dropped considerably in the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Russia and Indonesia, even up to 85%.
To meet the needs of customers that are roaming overseas, China Unicom has launched 66 yuan/60MB/DAY data package in 11 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific and 70 yuan/20MB/DAY package in 36 countries and regions worldwide to provide users a data roaming business with cheaper prices, better quality and more convenient service. Meanwhile China Unicom also launched monthly data plans for different demands of customers. In addition, China Unicom provided SMS reminder service such as daily traffic alert, instant reminder for each 10MB data use, etc.
China Unicom possesses the most widely-used WCDMA 3G network and always works on enlarging the coverage of roaming countries and regions. Up till now, China Unicom has already opened the roaming business with 576 operators in 249 countries and regions , among those it has opened WCDMA 3G & GPRS roaming data services with 439 operators in 188 countries and regions.
