Zhejiang China Unicom fully Shuts down its 3G Network Starting Today

Updated:2026/6/15 16:49

According to an official notice from Zhejiang China Unicom, the company's 3G network across Zhejiang Province will be completely decommissioned as of today. This means devices, service plans and SIM cards that only support 3G will no longer be able to access communication services including voice calls and mobile data.

Zhejiang China Unicom reminds users still using 3G-only mobile phones and other terminals to replace them with 4G/5G-compatible devices. Customers may also visit nearby China Unicom business halls to enjoy discounted offers for device upgrades.

The operator stated that China Unicom's 4G and 5G networks now provide comprehensive in-depth coverage across both urban and rural areas of Zhejiang. With continuously improved network capacity and service quality, the networks fully meet users’daily demands for calling, internet access and other communication needs.

The shutdown of Zhejiang China Unicom's 3G network marks the final phase of the nationwide phase-out of WCDMA networks in China. WCDMA was the 3G mobile communication technology adopted by China Unicom. The carrier obtained the WCDMA license in January 2009 and officially launched the commercial trial of its 3G service on May 17 the same year. Starting from 2011, China Unicom upgraded its 3G networks to HSPA in selected cities.
