Updated:2022/11/16 20:26

With the recent approval of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for China Unicom to re-farm the 900MHz frequency resources currently used for 2G/3G/4G systems for 5G systems, China Unicom has officially kicked off the commercial 900M NR network. On Nov. 15, China Unicom announced that it expected to build 170,000 new stations for its 900M low-frequency network in rural areas by the end of this year to rapidly increase rural 5G coverage.

It is reported that to maximize the potential of a 5G low-frequency network and overcome the deficiencies of narrow band, multiple standards, and large external interference for the 900M network, China Unicom has put forward innovative initiatives in five aspects, and has applied for more than 10 national invention patents.
