Chi Yongsheng, vice president of the China Unicom Research Institute, said yesterday that since China Unicom and China Telecom started the 5G network co-building and sharing cooperation in September last year, the two companies have made concerted efforts and handed in a satisfactory answer to the country and society.
According to reports, the two operators have set up 340,000 5G base stations in total to date, and the number is expected to reach 380,000 by the end of the year, the sharing rate over 95%, achieving coverage of all prefecture-level and above cities nationwide. At the same time, the co-building and sharing have also brought technical advantages, such as achieving a peak downlink rate of 3.2 Gbps at 200 Mhz bandwidth outdoors.
In addition, the co-building and sharing has also saved a lot of investment. According to preliminary statistics, the cooperation can save over 60 billion yuan in building investment for the two companies, quickly forming the 5G network coverage capacity with the least investment and in the shortest time in the real sense.
