Wei Shaojun, vice chairman of the China Semiconductor Industry Association and director of the Microelectronics Institute of Tsinghua University, pointed out that China imported 417.6 billion pieces of integrated circuits worth 312.1 billion US dollars in 2018, and exported integrated circuits 217.1 billion pieces worth 84.6 billion US dollars. The trade deficit hit a record high and reached 227.5 billion US dollars.
According to statistics, in 2018, the sales revenue of China’s IC design industry was 251.93 billion yuan, up 21.5% compared to 207.35 billion yuan in 2017. The growth rate was 4.6 percentage points lower than the previous year’s 26.1%, showing an improvement in proportion in the global IC design industry. Nearly 100% of China’s IC design sales statistics were contributed by local Chinese companies.
