Recently, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released the "March 2025 Domestic Mobile Phone Market Operation Analysis Report." According to the report, the domestic market saw mobile phone shipments of 22.76 million units in March, marking a year-over-year increase of 6.5%. Of these, 5G smartphones accounted for 19.42 million units, representing a 9.5% growth from the previous year and comprising 85.3% of the total mobile phone shipments for the period. In the first three months of the year, domestic market mobile phone shipments reached 69.67 million units, up 3.3% year-over-year. Among these, 5G phones totaled 61.04 million units, showing an 8.2% increase and making up 87.6% of the total shipments.
In March, 64 new mobile phone models were launched in the domestic market, a 30.6% year-over-year increase. Of these, 33 were 5G models, reflecting a 32.0% rise and constituting 51.6% of the new launches. Domestic brands shipped 20.88 million units, an 18.4% increase compared to the previous year, accounting for 91.7% of the total shipments for the month. Furthermore, 63 new models from domestic brands were launched, a 40.0% rise, representing 98.4% of all new models introduced during the period.
In the first quarter, 113 new mobile phone models were released, a 9.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Among them, 63 were 5G models, showing a 14.5% rise and making up 55.8% of the new launches. Domestic brands shipped 60.75 million units in total, a 9.0% year-over-year growth, comprising 87.2% of the total shipments for the period. Additionally, 111 new models from domestic brands were launched, an 18.1% increase, accounting for 98.2% of all new models released in the first quarter.
