Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reported the summary and evaluation of key cities for the 2024 5G Application "Sailing" Initiative, with a total of 16 cities selected for the first batch of key cities this year.
Geographically, the 16 specific cities are: four in Guangdong (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan); three in Jiangsu (Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi); two in Zhejiang (Hangzhou, Ningbo); two in Shandong (Jinan, Qingdao); as well as Beijing, Shanghai, Hefei in Anhui, Zhengzhou in Henan, and Wuhan in Hubei.
The evaluation shows that in terms of 5G data usage, the average 5G personal user penetration rate in these key cities reaches 87.6%. The top three cities, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, have reached 105.94%, 101.77%, and 99.34%, respectively, far exceeding the national average. The proportion of 5G network access traffic in these key cities is 62.91%, with Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Zhengzhou leading at 68.52%, 66.38%, and 64.94%.
Regarding 5G network construction, these key cities surpass the national level significantly, with an average of 39.68 5G base stations per 10,000 people.
In terms of 5G application connections, the number of 5G IoT terminal connections in these key cities has reached 17.9634 million, accounting for over 40% of the national total.
In the area of 5G application innovation, these key cities have won a total of 701 projects in the "Bloom Cup" 5G Application Contest national finals. They have achieved a total of 420 projects and exemplary cases in 5G+ smart education, smart healthcare, smart tourism, and energy pilot projects. They also have a total of 93 5G application innovation entities, all leading the national average.
