On June 28, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released the May 2024 Domestic Mobile Phone Market Operation Analysis Report.
In May 2024, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 30.329 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%. Among these, 5G phone shipments were 25.531 million units, a year-on-year increase of 26.6%, accounting for 84.2% of total mobile phone shipments during the same period.
In May, 49 new mobile phone models were launched in the domestic market, a year-on-year increase of 53.1%. Among these, 27 were 5G phone models, a year-on-year increase of 145.5%, accounting for 55.1% of new mobile phone models launched during the same period.
From January to May 2024, domestic mobile phone shipments totaled 122 million units, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%. Among these, 5G phone shipments were 102 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20.3%, accounting for 83.9% of total mobile phone shipments during the same period.
From January to May, 179 new mobile phone models were launched in the domestic market, a year-on-year decrease of 1.1%. Among these, 98 were 5G phone models, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%, accounting for 54.7% of new mobile phone models launched during the same period.
