According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's micro report, as of the end of September this year, Yunnan Province has completed a total investment of 3.96 billion yuan in 5G network construction. They have built 20,216 new 5G base stations and added 32,631 5G base stations, achieving the annual target task of "building more than 20,000 new 5G base stations" set in the 2023 Yunnan Provincial Government Work Report three months ahead of schedule. Currently, the total number of 5G base stations in the province has reached 98,689, ranking 14th in the country and second in the western region. 95.3% of administrative villages have achieved effective 5G network coverage, and towns and higher-level administrative areas have achieved effective 5G network coverage. Industrial parks, hospitals, schools, and some vertical industries have achieved deep coverage.
Based on this foundation, the information and communication industry in the province actively promotes 5G application innovation, focusing on and deepening industries such as industry, agriculture, healthcare, and education. Efforts are being made to create benchmark projects for 5G applications, solve industry pain points, and drive and promote the upgrading of relevant industry chains and digital transformation. Following the requirements of the "5G Application Sail" Action Plan (2021-2023) by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other ten departments, the "5G Sailing·Empowering Yunnan" activities have been carried out in various cities and prefectures to jointly promote the "industry battle, group battle, and empowerment battle" for innovative 5G integration applications. As of now, a total of 186 5G application projects have been implemented in the province, and some typical applications and scenarios have conditions for promotion and replication.
