Yesterday evening, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the economic performance of the telecommunications industry from January to August 2023.
The data shows that fixed internet broadband revenue is steadily increasing. From January to August, the three major basic telecommunications companies achieved a total revenue of 174.1 billion yuan from internet broadband services, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, accounting for 15.2% of the total telecom revenue.
Fixed broadband access users are steadily increasing, and the scale of gigabit users continues to expand. As of the end of August, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users of the three major basic telecommunications companies reached 622 million, with a net increase of 32.14 million compared to the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of fixed internet broadband access users with a speed of 100 Mbps or above reached 587 million, accounting for 94.4% of the total users, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared to the end of the previous year.
The number of fixed internet broadband access users with a speed of 1000 Mbps or above reached 139 million, with a net increase of 47.22 million compared to the end of the previous year, accounting for 22.3% of the total users. Driven by the continuous growth of high-speed users, the average household bandwidth reached 428.3 Mbps, a year-on-year increase of 26.7%.
The construction of gigabit fiber optic broadband networks continues to advance. As of the end of August, the total number of internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.118 billion, with a net increase of 46.89 million compared to the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of fiber optic access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1.076 billion, with a net increase of 50.99 million compared to the end of the previous year, accounting for 96.3% of the internet broadband access ports, an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the end of the previous year. As of the end of August, the number of 10G PON ports capable of providing gigabit network services reached 21.44 million, with a net increase of 6.207 million compared to the end of the previous year.
In addition, as of the end of August, the total number of mobile phone users of the three major basic telecommunications companies reached 1.714 billion, with a net increase of 30.74 million compared to the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 714 million, with a net increase of 154 million compared to the end of the previous year, accounting for 41.7% of mobile phone users, an increase of 8.4 percentage points compared to the end of the previous year. The total number of 5G base stations reached 3.138 million, accounting for 27.5% of the total mobile base stations.
