Updated:2020/8/26 11:13

At the online technology forum held by TSMC today, Qin Yongpei, the senior deputy general manager, officially announced for the first time that Hsinchu, Taiwan would be the base for development of 2nm process nodes currently under R&D, and the adjacent R&D center would also be completed and start operation in 2021, involving 2nm-and-lower process node development.

In view of the current and future process node development, Wei Zhejia, president of TSMC, believes that the customer use rate of 7nm process nodes is still high, and TSMC has delivered more than 1 billion 7nm chips. At present, TSMC is making every effort to improve the mass production capacity of 5nm process nodes. TSMC plans to launch N5P, an enhanced version of N5 in 2021.

In addition, experimental production of 4nm process nodes is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2021, with mass production to start in 2022. Experimental production of 3nm process nodes is expected to begin in 2021, with mass production to start in the second half of 2022.
