CMRI Showcases Innovations Powered by 5G-A Deterministic Networks in New Industrialization

Updated:2024/11/27 15:12

China Mobile's Shanghai branch(Shanghai Mobile) announced the launch of the China Mobile Smart Computing Center (Shanghai) on May 16, 2024, during a press conference held in Shanghai to mark World Telecommunications Day. The company also announced the establishment of the Domestic Computing Power Industry Alliance, handed out intelligent-computing service coupons, and unveiled their new 5G-A industrial Internet lab.Additionally, the company announced their aim to build a model 5G A2 city(where A2 represents the multifold benefits of combining 5G-Advanced with AI), rolled out a series of 5G-A commercial products, and initiated the establishment of a 5G-A ecosystem alliance, in order to enable the citizens of Shanghai to enjoy a more digital and intelligent lifestyle.

The China Mobile Smart Computing Center (Shanghai) boasts over 10,000 computing cards. As a crucial node in China Mobile's computing power network strategy, the center leverages both large models and advanced algorithms to offer customers more intelligent and personalized services. It can serve as a significant computing power engine for the development of the digital economy in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.

The newly established Domestic Computing Power Industry Alliance aims to bring industry players together to share resources and complement each other's strengths. The alliance will connect the upstream and downstream segments of the domestic supply chain, from chips, servers, and cluster software, to model development, industry applications, and service operations, to jointly build end-to-end domestic intelligent computing service capabilities. Notably, the rollout of intelligent-computing service coupons allows enterprise customers to experience domestic computing services free of charge for the first month. This, in turn, will drive local innovation in domestic computing power.

The construction of 5G-A networks has garnered significant attention. On March 28, 2024, China Mobile commercially launched 5G-A networks. Shanghai was one of the first cities to roll out 5G-A networks. On World Telecommunications Day, Shanghai Mobile announced its aim to build the first model 5G A2 city. Augmenting 5G-A networks with AI capabilities will inject new momentum into the Shanghai's development and set it apart from other cities.

Last year, Shanghai Mobile announced the construction of the first smart city featuring 5G-A networks with speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s, wide coverage, deeper penetration, and innovative services. Since then, Shanghai Mobile, together with its partners, has rolled out multiple innovative benchmark applications, including smart metro communications, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) in Jinqiao, Pudong, low-altitude flight communications in Jinshan District, industrial Internet of Shanghai Faith, dedicated experience areas in nearby water towns, and an agricultural information management platform.

"5G-A networks cover all main urban areas in Shanghai, as well as some key scenarios," said Wang Ye, Deputy General Manager of Marketing Operations at Shanghai Mobile.

This year, Shanghai Mobile is focusing on combining 5G-A with AI to achieve a multiplier effect and build a model 5G A2 city. 5G-A networks can deliver 10-Gbit/s experiences and serve as an intelligent computing base for the integration of communication and computing, and AI can significantly enhance 5G-A networks, making them smarter.

Shanghai Mobile has partnered with the China Mobile Research Institute, the China Mobile (Shanghai) Industry Research Institute, and industry chain partners to jointly establish a 5G-A industrial Internet lab using China Mobile's collaborative innovation base platform. The lab is focused on researching 5G-A deterministic network technologies, developing and piloting flexible industrial production-line solutions, and providing ultra-low latency and highly reliable network services for factories. Furthermore, the lab has adapted 5G-A networks to common industrial control protocols. This means that 5G-A networks can be used for core production services and to drive new industrialization.

At this launch event, Shanghai Mobile released four 5G-A service packages, six types of terminals, seven AI+ family products, and multiple types of privileges. The four service packages include two monthly experience packages and two add-on experience packages. In addition, Shanghai Mobile, in collaboration with terminal manufacturers, released two glasses-free 3D terminals and four 5G-A smartphones.
