On February 25, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) published the 49th Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet (hereinafter referred to as the Report). The Report shows that as of December 2021, China's netizen population increased 42.96 million from a year earlier to 1.032 billion, with an Internet penetration rate of 73.0%.
For network architecture, China had 35.93 million domain names and 63,052 blocks/32, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%; and IPv6 traffic represented 35.15% of mobile communication networks. In the realm of IT and communication, a total of 1.425 million 5G base stations have been cumulatively built and opened, and 654,000 new 5G base stations have been added throughout the year; there have been more than 150 industrial Internet platforms with national influence, with over 76 million access devices; and there are more than 2,000 "5G+Industrial Internet" projects under construction across the country, suggesting integration and innovation of industrial Internet and 5G in key industries of the national economy at a faster pace.
