Completion of the Largest 5G Smart Grid in China

Updated:2020/7/21 17:11

According to the latest news from State Grid Corporation of China, the largest 5G smart grid project was built in Qingdao of Shandong province, which can not only cut off a distribution line fault automatically within tens of milliseconds, but also reduce the power consumption of a single 5G base station by 20% by shifting peak loads, significantly relieving the biggest problem of “too high power consumption” ailing the operation of 5G.

As described, the project is developed by State Grid Shandong Qingdao Power Supply Company jointly with China Telecom Qingdao Branch Company, and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. By now, the three partners have deployed over 30 5G base stations in places such as Guzhenkou in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao, Jinjialing in Laoshan District and Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, enabling traditional grids to transform and upgrade by virtue of the 5G technology and effectively supporting the application of 5G smart grids.
