China Telecom supports IoT eSIM and will carry out pilots of eSIM in wearables and set out consumer electronic ESIM standard this year, Lu Liangjun, marketing deputy general manager of China Telecom Group said at the E-surfing Smart Ecosystem EXPO on July 28.
However, China Telecom is against eSIM built into a mobile phone at this stage, and instead, it will actively follow up international and domestic standards, promote regulatory policy development and carry out safety assessment.
As the eSIM standard mature, the application extends. Besides the standard eSIM scheme, the terminal vendors adopt non-standard eSIM for international data roaming.
The international standard of eSIM is mainly set out by GSMA.
China Telecom has been supporting eSIM, Mr. Lu said.
The company released IoT eSIM standard in 2016, and the IoT eSIM platform will be ready in Q3 with key IoT projects being implemented.
