It is reported that Tencent intends to acquire Black Shark, a gaming smartphone company. After the acquisition, Black Shark will be integrated into the Platform and Content Group (PCG) of Tencent Group led by Ren Yuxin. According to the report, Tencent valued the Black Shark at 2.6 to 2.7 billion yuan.
Although previously engaged in gaming smartphones, after the acquisition, Black Shark will mainly focus on VR hardware. Black Shark may be the hardware platform of the “metaverse” which Tencent has been laying out during the past year.
Black Shark was founded by Xiaomi Investment. According to Tianyancha, Tianjin Venture Capital Industrial Co., Ltd., wholly-owned by Xiaomi, is the major shareholder with 46.4% of Black Shark Technology shares.
