According to Zhang Xuezhi, Deputy Director of Department of Information and Communication Development, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), more than 560,000 5G base stations have been built and put into operation in China, and China plans to cover major cities by the end of 2020. In terms of 5G application and promotion, 5G subscribers are mounting and have created over 100 million endpoint links (5G endpoints all covered by 5G). 5G application is evolving from pilot demonstration to commercialization step by step.
Nonetheless, Mr. Zhang admitted that 5G remains under development at the moment, with a lot more to be improved. Key technologies such as network slicing still need further testing and maturing.
