According to China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the reduced demand for 5G phones has led to a 10% year-on-year decrease in overall smart phone shipments in China this May.
CAICT stated that the total shipments was 32.7 million in May, among which 90% were Chinese domestic brands and nearly a half (15.6 million) were 5G phones, down 4.9% from April. As 5G phones were not on the market until August 2019, no year-on-year data has yet been available.
