First License for Satellite IoT Services Granted to Guodian Gaoke

Updated:2026/5/7 15:46

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has recently approved Beijing Guodian Gaoke Technology Co., Ltd. to carry out commercial pilot services for satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT), with a trial period of two years.

During this period, Guodian Gaoke is authorized to pilot satellite IoT services in accordance with regulations. Leveraging its "Tianqi Constellation," the company will provide users with wide-coverage, low-power, and highly reliable IoT connectivity, enabling round-the-clock, intelligent data collection and remote control across sectors such as marine fisheries, energy and water resources, transportation, and logistics.

As of May 2026, Guodian Gaoke is a private commercial space enterprise with a shareholding structure comprising founder control, institutional investment, and employee stock ownership. The de facto controller is founder Lyu Qiang.

The MIIT's issuance of the first license to a private commercial space company highlights the government's strong emphasis on the commercial space sector.

To date, Guodian Gaoke has completed the first phase of its global network deployment, with over 40 satellites in orbit, achieving an average global revisit time of five minutes. This infrastructure supports IoT data collection and control across more than 20 industries, including maritime, energy, logistics, and emergency response.
