Gigabit Broadband Users in China Reach 34.5% Penetration Rate

According to the latest 2025 Statistical Bulletin on the Communications Industry released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the total number of fixed broadband internet access subscribers of the three major telecom operators—China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom—reached 691 million by the end of 2025, with a net increase of 20.99 million for the year.

Among them, subscribers with access speeds of 100 Mbps or higher numbered 659 million, a net increase of 22.99 million for the year, accounting for 95.3% of the total user base. This represents a 0.4 percentage point increase compared to the end of the previous year. Subscribers with access speeds of 1000 Mbps or higher reached 238 million, with a net increase of 31.57 million for the year, accounting for 34.5% of the total user base—an increase of 3.6 percentage points compared to the end of the previous year.

Additionally, fixed broadband internet access services continue to expand rapidly in rural areas. By the end of 2025, the total number of rural broadband users nationwide reached 204 million, with a net increase of 4.507 million for the year.

Regarding infrastructure, in 2025, China added 2.113 million kilometers of optical fiber cable lines, bringing the total length of optical fiber cable lines nationwide to 74.99 million kilometers. Among these, the lengths of long-distance, local trunk, and access network optical fiber cable lines were 1.143 million, 30.06 million, and 43.79 million kilometers, respectively.

By the end of 2025, the number of fixed broadband internet access ports reached 1.251 billion, with a net increase of 48.77 million compared to the end of the previous year. Among these, FTTH/O ports amounted to 1.21 billion, a net increase of 50.3 million compared to the end of the previous year, with their share increasing from 96.5% to 96.8%. The number of 10G-PON ports capable of providing gigabit network services reached 31.62 million by the end of 2025, a net increase of 3.419 million compared to the end of the previous year.

The number of Fiber to the Room (FTTR) users reached 59.39 million by the end of 2025. The upgrade of home digital infrastructure is accelerating the evolution of home services from basic connectivity to integrated "FTTR+X" applications, expanding new scenarios for home digital services. In 2025, the total access bandwidth of fixed broadband users reached 346,000 Tbps, a year-on-year increase of 12.7%. The average contracted bandwidth per household has reached 553.4 Mbps/household, an increase of 41.6 Mbps/household compared to the end of the previous year.
