Updated:2025/12/2 14:03

On December 1, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced on its official website that the next World Radio Conference (WRC-27) and Radio Assembly (RA-27) will take place in Shanghai, China, from October 11 to November 12, 2027.

ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin stated, "WRC-27 will serve as a key opportunity to promote universal and meaningful connectivity. The conference will make important decisions regarding the efficient and equitable use of terrestrial and space radio spectrum and satellite orbit resources, with the outcomes benefiting all of humanity."

Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Lecheng said, "As the first Asia-Pacific country to host the World Radio Conference, China greatly anticipates the successful convening of this grand event. In accordance with the relevant regulations of the ITU, China will fulfill its obligations as the host country, meticulously provide all necessary services and support for the conference, and collaborate with ITU member states to present a radio communication event characterized by win-win cooperation and fruitful outcomes to the world. We sincerely invite and welcome all conference delegates, wishing them a pleasant stay in Shanghai."

Mario Maniewicz, Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, remarked, "The World Radio Conference is crucial for shaping the future of global communications. WRC-27, to be held in Shanghai, China, will chart the course for the development of terrestrial and space radiocommunication services, covering areas such as broadband connectivity, safety of life, and space and Earth observation. This conference will bring together the international community to ensure that radio spectrum regulations keep pace with rapidly evolving technological innovations and respond to global, regional, and national development needs."

Held every three to four years, the World Radio Conference is primarily responsible for reviewing and revising the ITU's Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of radio frequencies and satellite orbit resources. During the four-week conference, ITU member states will examine technical research findings and adopt a series of decisions that will define the future use of radio frequencies in radiocommunication services and applications, including mobile, satellite, radio positioning, radio astronomy, and space research services supporting lunar communications.

WRC-27 and RA-27 are expected to attract over 4,000 delegates. In addition to the 194 ITU member states, representatives from sister United Nations agencies, regional telecommunications organizations, and members of the ITU Radiocommunication Sector will also participate as observers.
