According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the domestic smartphone market experienced a significant boost in February, with shipments reaching 19.66 million units, marking a year-on-year increase of 37.9%. Notably, shipments of 5G smartphones accounted for 17.98 million units, representing a 43.5% increase compared to the previous year, and making up 91.5% of the total shipments for the month.
In the first two months of the year, smartphone shipments in the domestic market totaled 46.91 million units, a slight year-on-year increase of 1.9%. Out of these, 5G smartphones accounted for 41.62 million units, reflecting a 7.6% increase from the same period last year, and comprising 88.7% of the total shipments.
Regarding new device launches, February saw the introduction of 13 new smartphone models in the domestic market, a 43.5% decline compared to the previous year. Among these, 9 were 5G models, marking a 52.6% year-on-year decrease, but still accounting for 69.2% of the new releases.
The composition of the domestic smartphone market by brand shows that Chinese brands shipped 17.02 million units in February, a 43.8% increase year-on-year, representing 86.6% of the total shipments.
In terms of smart devices, February saw 18.61 million units of smartphones being shipped, which is a 32.5% increase from the previous year, comprising 94.6% of the total mobile phone shipments. Additionally, there were 11 new smart device models launched, a 47.6% year-on-year decrease, accounting for 84.6% of all new models released during the month.
