Recently, China Telecom has begun pre-qualification for its central purchase of servers in 2020, estimated to purchase 56,314 sets in 8 tendering packages according to its announcement.
Notably for this central purchase, it is the first time that totally-homemade servers of H-series, containing HUAWEI Kunpeng 920 chip or HYGON Dhyana-series processors, are separately listed in the invitation for tender.
In the quantity, H-series servers will be centrally purchased 11,185 sets, accounting for nearly 20% of the total. Allegedly, HUAWEI Kunpeng 920 chip was released in January 2019 as a datacenter high-performance processor developed on the ARM structure by HUAWEI itself.
Obviously, China Telecom is prudently fostering a homemade, independent and controllable industrial chain. Seeing the incidents about ZTE and HUAWEI in recent years, it is imperative for China to achieve independence and controllability of its key industries.
