The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and other departments recently jointly issued a notice on carrying out the "Signal Upgrade" special action, proposing that by the end of 2024, more than 80000 key locations will achieve deep mobile network coverage, and 25000 kilometers of railways, 350000 kilometers of public roads, and 150 subway lines will achieve continuous mobile network coverage.
The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that currently, China's 4G network has fully covered urban and rural areas, and 5G network coverage is gradually shifting from "city to city" to "county to county", and continues to extend to townships, administrative villages, and other areas. Promoting "signal upgrading" is not only conducive to meeting the needs of the public for a better life, but also will further assist in the digital transformation of the industry.
The notice proposes four main tasks from strengthening network coverage in key scenarios, accelerating the improvement of key business services, enhancing efficient collaboration of resource elements, and promoting the improvement of monitoring and evaluation levels, clarifying the main goals for 2024 and 2025. By the end of 2025, over 120000 key locations will achieve deep mobile network coverage, 30000 kilometers of railways and 500000 kilometers of highways, and 200 subway lines will achieve continuous mobile network coverage. It is worth mentioning that in terms of strengthening network coverage in key scenarios, the notice is aimed at 11 key scenarios such as government centers, cultural and tourism, medical institutions, higher education institutions, and transportation hubs, and corresponding coverage goals have been proposed. In terms of accelerating the improvement of key business services, tasks such as optimizing the deployment of internet application infrastructure have been clarified.
